Resource Hacker is a freeware utility to view, modify, rename, add, delete and extract resources in 32bit Windows executables and resource files (*.res). It incorporates an internal resource script compiler and decompiler and works on Win95, Win98, WinME, WinNT, Win2000 and WinXP operating systems.
1. CREATE A BACKUP COPY OF THE FILE EXPLORER.EXE
It can be found in C:\Windows\explorer. Store it in a place somewhere safe (of course, i’m talking on your hard drive).
2. HACK EXPLORER.EXE FILE
START RESOURCE HACKER, go to FILE & OPEN explorer.exe located at C:\Windows\explorer.exe
Look in the left coulmn for STRING TABLE. Expand it then navigate down to and expand STRING 37 followed by HIGHLIGHTING 1033. (PS:If you are using the Classic Layout rather than the XP Layout, use number 38).
In the right hand side pane, in front of item 578, modify “start” (mind it: change only the characters/string inside the quotation marks).
Now click on compile script and SAVE AS with a different filename (It’s an option or You can directly SAVE the explorer.exe file) .
3. MODIFY THE REGISTRY (If you have used A DIFFERENT FILENAME TO SAVE EXPLORER.EXE FILE)
Go to start (soon to be something else) » Run and type “regedit”.
In the right hand side pane double click on “SHELL” to open the Edit String dialog box. In Value data: line, enter the name that was used to save the modified explorer.exe file. Click OK.
Close the Registry Editor.
4.LOG OFF and LOGIN AGAIN
TA DA!! YOU CAN SEE THE START BUTTON WITH YOUR EDITED TEXT.
Hidden Music Track in XP
It’s a Windows Welcome Music by Microsoft.
You can simply search for it by typing “title.wma” in the search companion (go to Start » Search).Do not forget to check Search hidden files and folders.
You can find the file in C:\WINDOWS\system32\oobe\images
